The Social Event with Local Residents at the International House 2017

On Tuesday, November 14, 2017,a social event was held for the international students at the International House of Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai) to mingle with local residents.

A total of thirty attendees gave a boost to this social gathering, which include guests from Matsudo City where the International House is located, and various other organizations such as the international associations in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Chiba University, as well as international students and faculty and administrative staff members of Tokyo Geidai.

The head of the International House, Professor Mitsuko Okamoto gave an opening address and an international student made a speech on behalf of all the residents. They both expressed gratitude to local people of Matsudo and the members of the international associations for their support to their dormitory.

The guests encouraged the international students in their speeches and provided information about various events they organize for international students.

The participants enjoyed conversations over snacks and Japanese “oden”, and watched a Japanese traditional dance performance by the dance company of the Shinmatsudo Community Gobangai neighborhood association. Students from China played the Chinese song The Moon Represents My Heart月亮代表我的心on the piano and cello.

The event successfully ended with a closing speech by International House Supervisor Eriko Ishida. She appreciated the support to the International House provided by the guests and asked them to watch over the residents

We wish that this event has added momentum to promoting friendly relations between the international students at Tokyo Geidai and people who live in the vicinity of the International House.
