On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, an international student orientation was held at the Ueno Campus for those who started their studies at Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai) from the 2018 fall semester.

First, the students went on an optional campus tour and visited the classrooms where the Japanese Language Classes are taught at, the University Library which was drastically renovated and newly opened, and the Art Media Center where they can access to the equipment for their creative activities.

After the tour, approximately 40 new international students were welcomed with remarks by Professor Mitsuko Okamoto who is the director of Global Support Center and the Vice President in charge of international affairs and campus diversity.

During the orientation session, Dr. Yoshie Itani (Project Professor of GSC), in her presentation, introduced history of Tokyo Arts School and Tokyo Music School, both of which is the predecessor of Tokyo Geidai and various seasonal events for international students along with information on their campus life. Then, Ms. Eriko Ishida (Project Lecturer of GSC) gave explanations on the Japanese Language Classes designed for international students learning Japanese.

The orientation concludes with a lecture, given by a member of the staff of the International Affairs Office, on various procedures required for their student life in Japan.

Following the orientation, the students and the staff and faculty members joined a Welcome Party for International Students hosted by the president at the University Hall.

All of us will continue to work together to support international students so that they can enjoy their student life full at Tokyo Geidai. We deeply appreciate those who offered their kind support and cooperation in facilitating the campus tour and the orientation.
