Why did you choose Geidai as your study abroad destination?
藝大に留学したきっかけ

国立で、全国的に評価が高いと聞いたからです。入学が難しいと言われたら、さらにやる気が出てきました。

It is because I heard that Geidai is a national university and highly evaluated. I was more motivated by hearing that it was hard to get into Geidai.

What did you do to prepare yourself for studying abroad in Japan?
留学前に準備したこと

パソコンに好きな音楽をいっぱい入れておきました。留学中つらいときもあるだろうと思って、好きな音楽で元気つけようと思ったのです。確かにこの音楽のお陰でよく助かりました。ところで、当時聞いていた曲は殆どDEPECHE MODE（イギリス）とKINO（ソ連）というロックバンドでした。

I have downloaded a lot of my favorite music to a computer so that I can cheer myself up by listening to my favorite music when I have hard time during my study abroad. Indeed, it worked very well. Most of the songs I was listening to at such times were played by the rock bands called, DEPECHE MODE（U.K.）and KINO（Soviet Union）.

What do you study at Geidai?
藝大で学んでいること

主に劇映画の表現・製作技術を学んでいます。特に編集に集中しています。近年は映画の殆どがデジタル化していますが、藝大ではフィルム映画を作る可能性があり、とても嬉しいです。自分自身はフィルム映画のほうが好きです。

The focus of my study is on fictional film expressions and production techniques, particularly editing. Even though most of movies are digitalizing nowadays, I am very glad to have a chance to create film movies. I personally prefer film movies.

What do you like about Geidai?
藝大に来てよかったこと

映画業界で活躍しているプロと直接交流できることです。プロ映画人の話を聞いて映画業界の裏についても知ることができ、知識を得るだけではなく、精神的にも良い刺激となります。今まで藝大で会った人物の中でイランのアミール・ナデリ監督が一番印象的でした。

There are chances to directly meet professionals who actively work in the movie industry. They provide not only knowledge but also good inspiration. I can also hear behind-the-scene stories of the movie industry. Amir Naderi, the Iranian film director, was the most impressive person I’ve ever met at Geidai.

What are the things that impressed you or surprised you in Japan?
日本に来て印象に残っていること・意外だったこと

最初に印象に残ったのはやはり日本のサービスでしょう。本当に感動しました。現在は慣れていますが、帰国するたびに地元のサービスにショックを受けたりします。意外だと思っていることは上下関係と男女関係です。学校や職場などで先輩と後輩がいて、厳しい態度をする先輩が多いです。まるで軍隊のような感じがします。男女関係といえば、未だに違和感を感じています。日本の男性が弱くて、全然ジェントルマン姿勢を持ちません。それで２０代でも恋人がいない若者が多いです。そもそも、男女が異性として交流する機会が少なくて、わざわざ「機会」を作らなければなりません（合コンなど）。一方、偶然気に入った人に声をかけるのは（いわゆる“ナンパ“）なぜか悪いイメージがします。

First of all, I was very impressed by Japanese service. I got used to it now but every time I go back to my country, I get shocked by the quality of service offered by the locals. What I hadn’t expected were hierarchical relationship and also male-female relationship. There are seniors and juniors at schools and workplaces. I found that there are many strict seniors as if they were military commanders. Regarding male-female relationship, I still feel something is wrong. Japanese men are weak and they don’t have attitude of gentlemen. That’s why there are many 20’s who don’t have a lover. There are not many opportunities for men and women to get to know well each other, and they dare to create occasions such as matching parties. On the other hand, asking someone you just passed by and found attractive out for a date (so-called “hitting on a girl on the street”) seems to have a bad impression.

What are your future goals?

日本への留学を考えている学生へのメッセージ

まず、「なんで日本？」という質問に自分に答えられるべきだと思います。つまり日本に対する志望動機がなくてはならないのです。例えば、「日本料理が好き」とか「アニメが好き」という興味があれば日本に留学する意義があると思います。それから自分が何を学びたいのかちゃんと決めたほうが良いです。できれば日本でしか学べないこと、あるいは日本で学んだほうがいいと考えられることを選んでください。いずれにしても、日本留学はとても興味深くて、知識と視野を広げると思います。是非チャレンジしてみてください！

Primarily, you need to have an answer for the question, “Why Japan?” In short, you should have a reason to choose Japan. For example, interests toward “Japanese foods” and “Japanese animation” make your study meaningful in Japan. You should decide what you want to learn. If it’s possible, try to choose things that you can study only in Japan or things you should study in Japan. In any case, studying in Japan would be very interesting and broaden your knowledge and point of view. Why don’t you give it a go?
