留学生見学旅行2016International Student Excursion 2016

平成28年6月28日から29日にかけて１泊２日で、11か国1地域からの留学生34名と教職員5名が、日本文化体験旅行に参加しました。今年度の旅行先は栃木県日光市でした。
まず、杉並木公園を散策しました。大きな杉に囲まれた道を歩き、公園内に数多く設置された水車や小川の風景を楽しみました。
次に、日光ゆば製造株式会社日光工場を訪れました。工場では、ゆばが製造されている様子を直接見ることができました。京都の湯葉が1枚で薄いつくりであることに対して、日光ゆばは2枚仕上げで間にも豆乳があるのだそうです。工場での見学を終え、売店にてゆば作り体験をしました。本来は豆乳を90度に保ち、7～8分すると表面に膜ができるとのことですが、体験では、団扇を使って表面を冷却し、楊枝でゆばをすくいました。
その後、日光木彫りの里工芸センターに行き、日光彫の体験をしました。日光東照宮にまつわる動物、三猿・鳴き龍・眠り猫の図案の中から各々が好きなものを選び、彫りました。ヒッカキというV字型の三角刃を用いて自分の方に引いて彫る技法は、なかなか難しいものでしたが、美術を専攻する学生の何人かはすぐにコツをつかみ、早々と完成させました。
宿泊先の鬼怒川パークホテルズでは、温泉や豪華な和食を楽しむことができました。留学生たちは、それぞれの国・地域の文化を伝え合いながら夜遅くまで歓談を楽しみました。
2日目の朝には、うるし博物館を訪れました。本来ならば休館日にあたる日でしたが、博物館の館長が藝大の卒業生ということで留学生のために特別に開館してくださいました。グローバルサポートセンター長である三田村先生より作品の解説や漆の木についての説明がされ、学生たちは熱心に聴き入り展示物を鑑賞しました。
うるし博物館の見学後は、日光東照宮へ向かいました。残念ながら三猿や眠り猫は修復中だったのですが、雨が降っていない午前中にしか見ることができない神馬や、偶然に東照宮内で行われていた結婚式を見ることができました。結婚式の会場から聞こえてくる雅楽の音に興味を持った留学生が音楽学を専攻している留学生に音階について質問をしている場面がありました。また、唐門の白塗りが貝をすり潰したものであることに関心を抱いた留学生や、祭りごとの際に、旗を立てる大きな丸い石に興味を持つ留学生の姿も見られました。
最後に、日光田茂沢御用邸記念公園を見学しました。留学生は、日本の伝統的な建築様式や数々の部屋や綺麗に整えられた日本庭園の様子を見学しました。緑豊かで木材を多く使われた大きな造りの御用邸で気持ち良くリラックスする様子が見られました。建築を専攻している留学生からは、日本にはこんなにも立派な建築スタイルがあるのに最近は西洋風の建物ばかりで非常に残念だという声がありました。
2日間とも曇り空で、ときどき小雨が降りましたが、ひどく雨に打たれることもなく、涼しい気温の中で旅行楽しむことができました。また、日光には既に来たことがある学生もいましたが、今回の見学旅行では、普段自分たちでは訪れない場所に行けたので、参加者全員が楽しめました。
1泊２日ではありましたが、異なる専攻やキャンパスそして国・地域の留学生が、今回の旅行を通して親交を深め、今後も続く新しい友人関係を築けたことを嬉しく思います。

From June 28 to 29, 2016, a group of 5 staff members and 34 international students from 11 countries and 1 region went on an excursion to Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, to experience Japanese culture.
The group first visited Suginamiki Koen (Cedar Path Park), where they walked along the avenue lined by tall cedar trees and enjoyed the landscape with a number of watermills and streams in the park.
The next destination was a factory operated by the company called Nikkoyuba, where visitors could directly see the manufacturing process of yuba (tofu skin).
Later, the group moved to Nikko Woodcarving Center to experience the technique of Nikko-bori (woodcarving). Each participant chose a carving motif from the three options of Sansaru (three monkeys), Nakiryu (crying dragon), or Nemurineko (sleeping cat), the animals in the legend associated with the Nikko Toshogu Shrine.
The group enjoyed hot springs and big Washoku (Japanese cuisine) dinner at the Kinugawa Park Hotel, the accommodation for the night. The international students stayed up late talking about their cultures at home.
The first destination in the morning of the second day was an urushi museum. The students appreciated the exhibition while carefully listening to the explanation by Professor Mitamura, the head of the Global Support Center, about the urushi tree and the Japanese lacquer crafts on display.
Following the urushi museum, the group visited Nikko Toshogu. Unfortunately, the famous sculptures of the three monkeys and sleeping cat were under repair, and therefore were unable to be seen. Instead, the group was able to see a living sacred horse that is shown to the public only in the mornings of fine days and also came across a wedding that was taking place in the shrine.
The last destination of the excursion was the Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park. The group toured the imperial villa, which showcases different styles of Japanese classical architecture, with numerous rooms and quite a well-kept Japanese garden. The international students were comfortably relaxing in lush greens at the spacious residence chiefly made of wood.
Although it was only a short, two-day trip, the excursion seemed to have served as an opportunity for the students of different specialties, campuses and origins to get familiarized with each other, which would hopefully lead to a continuing friendship.
