2017年8月10日、東京藝術大学音楽学部第２ホールにて、「DRUMS AND VOICES 2017」を開催しました。
「DRUMS AND VOICES」は、2013年の「日ASEAN４０周年」に際してプロデュースされ、ASEAN６カ国と日本で公演を行いました。打楽器と声というプリミティブな二つの楽器を基本に、伝統による創造、すなわち伝統的なボキャブラリーを使いながら、自分たちの音楽を創造していくことをテーマに、２週間のワークショップを２回、合計４週間に渡り共同作業を続けて公演に臨みました。
今回、本学においては、文部科学省「大学の世界展開力強化事業（ASEAN地域における大学間交流の推進）」の一環で、ASEAN各国の伝統楽器を学ぶ機会として、連携大学等の講師を招聘し、「DRUMS AND VOICES」の特別版を開催しました。
出演は、バンコク（タイ）からはトサポーン・タッサーナ、ハノイ（ベトナム）からはグェン・ハイ・ダン、ヤンゴン（ミャンマー）からはボ・トゥ・レイン、奄美大島からは里アンナと、いずれも各分野における第一人者が揃い、単なる異ジャンル／異文化のコラボレーションに止まらない、アンサンブルとしての演奏が披露されました。
また、コンサートに先立つ特別レクチャーでは、各演奏家の使う楽器とその技法、各国の音楽についての解説、デモンストレーションが行われ、終演後には、出演者と学生等との間で、演奏法やリズムなどについて、様々な質疑応答が交わされました。
On August 10, 2017, the event DRUMS AND VOICES 2017 was held at the No.2 Hall in the Faculty of Music building on the Ueno campus.
In this event, a concert was staged by Tossaporn Tassana from Bangkok, Thailand, Nguyen Hai Dang from Hanoi, Vietnam, and Bo Thu Rain from Yangon, Myanmar, as well as Anna Sato from the Amami islands, Japan. The leading performers in their respective fields came together to realize an ensemble performance that is more than mere collaboration of different cultures or genres.
During a special lecture that preceded the concert, the performers explained their instruments and performance techniques, while conducting demonstrations. They also introduced music in their countries. The lecture ended with a question and answer session, where the attendees asked various questions such as those related to playing style or rhythm.
