Overseas Travel Insurance

It is very important that you take travel insurance before you leave your country.

In Japan, people who stay in Japan for more than 3 months must join the “National Health Insurance” system which partially covers medical bills. However, the National Health Insurance does not cover the costly medical bills and treatment you would have to pay if you were to be hospitalized or have surgery, or if you accidentally injure someone else or break something expensive.
Those who will come to Japan, you may be able to take insurance provided by Japanese companies after you arrive in Japan, but in this case, it will not cover accidents, flight delays or loss of baggage until you arrive in Japan. Therefore, it is very important to have travel insurance before leaving your country.

Personal Accident Insurance for Students while Pursuing Education and Research (“Gakkensai”)

This is an insurance system to provide students with required coverage for damages caused by disasters and accidents during their educational and research activities, which covers not only during the regular curriculum, but also during extra activities (club activities, events) authorized by the university, during commuting, or in school facilities, in order them to devote to their study and spend a fulfilling student life without worries. (This insurance doesn’t cover the cost of co-payments for the National Health Insurance and injuries resulting from earthquakes or tsunami.) It is recommended that all students should take out the insurance after understanding the purpose of this insurance system. You can enroll in “Gakkensai” by paying the insurance fee at the Student Affairs Division.

It is “A type” of the insurance that the students of Tokyo Geidai can get. For more details, please visit the website of JEES (JAPAN EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGES and SERVICES) below. Please note that the webpage is only in Japanese, but scroll down to the bottom of the page to download information brochures in several languages.
