Graduation
The following are reminders for international students who are about to graduate from the university.
Change of Status of Residence
The “Student” status of residence is only valid during the period of enrollment at a Japanese university. Your Status of Residence will become invalid upon graduation (or other occasions when your affiliation with the university ends, such as expulsion and drop-out) even if your Residence Card indicates there is a period of time remaining until the expiry. Please keep in mind that staying in Japan with an invalid status of residence is illegal.
If you are planning to stay in Japan after leaving Tokyo Geidai for continuing your studies at another institution, employment, or seeking employment or stay in Japan for a short period of time for preparation to return to your home country, please be sure to take necessary procedures at the Immigration Services Bureau to maintain an appropriate status of residence.
Please check the “Change of Status of Residence” page.
Things to Do When Leaving Japan or Moving in Japan
You need to take the necessary procedures at your local municipal office and for termination of your apartment lease. For more details, please see the “When You Leave Japan” and “When You Move in Japan” pages.
