Stay in Japan

Q. My authorized period of stay will expire soon. How can I extend my period of stay?

A. The period of stay can be extended by completing the designated procedures at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan (The immigration office will start accepting his/her application form three months before his/her stay period expires). Please check the information about documents to be submitted in the Ministry of Justice website. Some of the certificates should be issued by Tokyo University of the Arts as part of your application package.

Q. Where can I obtain my certificate of enrollment, transcript, research activity statement, and certificate of subject?

A. These certificates can be issued at the Academic Affairs Division of your faculty. It may take a few days to issue them after your request. For more detail please check Tokyo Geidai Website (Fine Arts; Music; Film and New Media).

Q. Should I notify the university about change of place of residence and phone number?

A. Yes. Please submit by the Campus Plan.

Q. Should I notify the university of my trip abroad?

A. Yes. Please submit a “International Travel Form (Study Abroad, Temporary return to home country etc.)” when leaving Japan, regardless of whether classes are in session.

Q. Can I work part time in Japan?

A. Yes, but you must apply for “Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted Under the Status of Residence Previously Granted” at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan. It is restricted to work 28 hours or less per week. After you receive the permit to engage in part-time work, please submit a copy of your residence card (both of front side and back side) which the permit is printed on the back side to the Student Affairs Division International Exchange Section. Q. Where can I find the Academic Calendar?

A. You can check it on the Tokyo Geidai Website. Depending on the faculty, the schedule such as the period of class and school closure is different. Please check the Academic Calendar of your faculty as well.

Q. What is the Geidai account?

A. It is an account required to use some services such as the Campus Plan or certificate issuing machines (the left side of @ is the “Geidai ID”).  For more detail, please visit the ART MEDIA CENTER (AMC) website.

Q. What is the Campus Plan?

A. It is the web system that allows you to register courses, search for syllabus, and check your grade status. A Geidai account is required when you use it. Please check the Tokyo Geidai Website.

Q. I forget my password to login to the Campus Plan.

A. You can change or reissue the password. Please follow the instruction on the ART MEDIA CENTER (AMC) website.

Q. I don’t know how to register the courses.

A. During the period for course registration, you register the courses through the Campus Plan. The registration period differs for undergraduate and graduate students.
Please note that even if you register for online classes using Class Codes for Google Classroom, you will not be eligible for credit if you forget to register your courses with the Campus Plan.

About Remote Classes

Q. How can I access to remote classes?

A. Please check “How to Access Remote Classes“.

Q. Where can I find the Class Code of Google Classroom?

A. Login to the Campus Plan and find the Class Codes of your category on the “Information” in your Campus Plan. Then, access Google and open the “Classroom” from “Google Apps”. Click on “Create or join your first class” and enter your Class Code. Open the list of subjects from the tab of “Classes” and find “Class Codes” that you want to take.
Please note that the “Class Code” is different from the “Lecture Code” on the Campus Plan.

Q. I can’t find the Class Code which I want to take.

A. There are some courses whose Class Codes are not listed in the Google Classroom. These courses are implemented by other tools such as Zoom other than Google Classroom, or each laboratory can invite participant students directly.
