Signing to Receive Scholarships

In order to receive a monthly scholarship, MEXT scholarship students must sign the enrollment confirmation form at one of the university offices every month. If your home campus is not Ueno Campus and it is difficult for you to come to the Student Affairs Division International Exchange Section for signature, please consult with its staff in advance.

If you miss a deadline and sign later in the same month, the scholarship will be paid in the following month. If you are absent from the university for an entire month, the scholarship for that month will not be paid.

Extension of the period of the MEXT Scholarships

Non-regular students wishing to go on to a degree program as a regular graduate student, or regular master’s students wishing to proceed to a doctoral program may be able to have the scholarship period extended upon successful examination by both GEIDAI (or another university you would like to enter) and MEXT.

MEXT notifies universities of the application procedures for extension of the scholarship around December every year. The Student Affairs Division International Exchange Section will notify MEXT scholarship students when the information becomes available.

Information about the entrance examination for graduate students can be found on the following website.

Return air ticket

If you complete your research and return to your home country within the final month of the scholarship period, you will be provided (only once) with a return air ticket. MEXT will notify universities of the procedures to be followed around November and December every year. The Student Affairs Division International Exchange Section will notify MEXT students when the notice is received.

(A return air ticket is not provided for students selected in the SGU category of the scholarship.)
